Indiana Vote Times FAQs

What is Indiana Vote Times?

Indiana Vote Times is a free online app that shows how long the current wait is at vote centers in Marion, Boone, and Vigo counties during the 2024 general election. It is available between October 8 and November 5, 2024 during early in-person voting and on Election Day.

Why do we need this?

Most Hoosiers will need to cast their ballot in-person, either during early voting or on Election Day. While there are many available locations to cast your ballot, it still requires planning to get out to vote—especially if you need to arrange transportation, work, or childcare. We expect that turnout will be high in the 2024 election, and so lines might be long and the time it takes to vote could be unpredictable. Just like how you might check Google to see how busy a place typically is during the day, you can check wait times to find the shortest line before you get out to vote.

How does it work?

It is powered by voters, with a little bit of technology magic! While waiting in line to vote, voters can “check-in” via the app to report how long the lines are. It’s just two questions: “about how many people are in front of you?” and “about how many people are behind you?” With that information submitted from enough voters, our algorithms can estimate the current wait time for when a new person enters the line.

Does it collect data about me?

All check-in data is anonymous, and no personally identifiable information is collected by the app. You don’t need to have an account or provide any personal information to view the current wait times or to check-in. For full details, see our privacy policy.

Why is it only available in some Indiana counties?

Marion, Boone, and Vigo counties are vote center counties, which means that voters can cast their ballot at any polling place, not only the precinct in which they live. Some day we intend to make Indiana Vote Times available to all Hoosiers, but for this year we focused on making the app available in these vote center counties.

Who is behind Indiana Vote Times?

Indiana Votes Times is a project of IN Tech for Progress. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, nonpartisan organization. We are not affiliated with any candidate, political party, or government agency. The app was designed and built entirely by Hoosier volunteers who are passionate about civic engagement and helping Hoosiers to participate in our democracy. IN Tech for Progress was founded in 2020 and partnered with other Indiana tech companies to develop “Indy Vote Times” and in 2024 has evolved the technology to be more scalable and available outside of Indianapolis.
